The biographical account related to the Egyptian anchorite Onophrius (Vita Onuphrii) represents an interesting case, among many others, where uniquely combining literary and documentary manuscripts on the one side and archaeology on the other, it is possible to reconstruct the fortune of a devotional practice and a literary tradition from Late Antiquity to Early Middle Ages.
